Australia and the UN Security Council

Today , Australia gained one of the three two year seats on the Security Council of the United Nations .

Why is this so ? OR A few reasons for winning the UN vote ( not counting the 25 million dollars spent by the Government ) .

" Australia was a founding member of the United Nations (UN) in 1945 and has been actively engaged in the organisation since its formation. The UN is seen by the Australian Government as a means to influence events which directly affect Australia's interests but over which they have little unilateral control "

"Australia is the twelfth largest financial contributor to the UN . " ....... From Wikipedia

Australians at War

( From 1988 , Iraq and Afghanistan etc. to be added . The only country to be an ally of the US since WWI . ) This article has been contributed by the Australian War Memorial - written by Matthew Higgins.

Over 100,000 Australians have lost their lives through war. Many more thousands have been wounded, while the number of Australians who have served abroad in wartime is eight to nine times the number who have died.
