I have spent half an hour looking for an informed article dealing with the present Immigration debate . Well , there is none . Nothing to simply add " Me too " as a comment .No one is prepared to discuss the racial stupidity and political insincerity of the political / media classes . A fear of the unknown , founded in polls and self fore filling prophecies . All of which is about ratings , not adding to informed debate .If Australia is to do something about this " security threat " let us change our approach to the areas the refugees are coming from . Next comes a bit of horse trading with countries to our North . Finally we need to treat refugees with dignity , such as we would expect if the situation was reversed , not the present attempts to circumvent Treaties we are committed too . They are seeking asylum , which Australia is legally bound to provide .Frankly , the person who is prepared to risk all to get to Australia is the person the country needs in difficult economic times ( even if these conditions are better than those in almost every other country in the world , a country which until a few days ago , had a judiciary more or less free of political interference in the area of immigration . This is not to say that previous Immigration Ministers have allowed humanity to influence their decisions ) .There is a lot more to consider here , including the maximum Size of Populations and the effects of Climate Change on the Supply of Food .
