Australian Emissions Trading Scheme ( ETS ) - Skeptics and Others

( 28 Nov , 2009 ) According to the government broadcaster , the ABC , these are the twelve members who have put their personal positions above the interests of their party , the nation and indeed the World . Their actions would suggest opportunism , a high level of scientific naivety and an interest in doing the bidding of the coal industry etc. . ( Links to their official web pages as shown on 42nd Parliament: List of Members by Political Party and List of Senators by Political Party are shown in brackets , email addresses are shown where available . It is interesting to note who will only allow contact through online forms . ) They have had two years to get this right !

Tony Abbott ( Abbott, The Hon Tony, Member for Warringah )
Nick Minchin (
Minchin, the Hon Nick - Senator for South Australia )
Sophie Mirabella (

Others , such as ( Robb, The Hon Andrew, Member for Goldstein ) are also involved , as are those whose parties refused to negotiate on the ETS :

The Nationals - House

Chester, Mr Darren, Member for Gippsland

Cobb, The Hon John, Member for Calare

Coulton, Mr Mark, Member for Parkes

Forrest, Mr John, Member for Mallee

Milne, Christine - Senator for Tasmania

Siewert, Rachel - Senator for Western Australia

( There is some sympathy for the position of the Greens , the ETS really is a work in progress , a small step at best . It is also fair to say that the federal government has been occasionally caught out playing politics . )

The Nationals - Senate

Boswell, the Hon Ronald - Senator for Queensland

Joyce, Barnaby - Senator for Queensland

Nash, Fiona - Senator for New South Wales

Williams, John - Senator for New South Wales

The Queen's speech at the opening of CHOGM, 27 November 2009

" And on this, the eve of the UN Copenhagen Summit on Climate Change, the Commonwealth has an opportunity to lead once more. The threat to our environment is not a new concern. But it is now a global challenge which will continue to affect the security and stability of millions for years to come. Many of those affected are among the most vulnerable, and many of the people least well able to withstand the adverse effects of Climate Change live in the Commonwealth. "
